Ralph came out promptly to give us an estimate, calling ahead within about a half hour before he was to arrive. We discussed the types of gutters available and options for where the downspouts would go for good drainage from our rather flat roof. He brought a color chart as well as samples to help us decide the color. He was friendly and professional. A proposal with a chart of where the downspouts were to go was e-mailed to us within a day. The coupon I had from Angie’s list was figured into the price without question

.An installation date was decided upon but they called the day before to ask if it could be moved back a few days as there was an unexpected problem with their current job (husband and wife divorcing; dispute over the gutters and Brothers ended up having to do the job over again or something. Ralph had to personally supervise to make sure they didn’t contest the job again). It was not ideal for us but doable so we said o.k.

The workers came on time the day of the job and were efficient and polite. They didn’t speak English very well but it wasn’t much of a problem. We had told Ralph we’d appreciate our plants not being trampled on and the workers were good about it. They did a nice job and the gutters have handled the rain well.

The only little quibble is in the area of communication. We had discussed one tricky area of where a downspout should go so that it drains down our driveway and looks the best from the street. Ralph’s diagram didn’t have the details of exactly how it would go down the wall. By the time we had our job done (almost 6 weeks after the estimate), we had forgotten how it should go. The workers didn’t know those details so we had to figure it out again. It would have been helpful to have Ralph there at this point. The workers gave suggestions but English was a problem so we didn’t understand all the pros and cons of which way the downspout should go. We didn’t consider that we’d see the gutters out our kitchen window doing it the way we eventually chose. Perhaps the guy was trying to tell us that but we didn’t get it. We’re not 100% happy with this little area but it’s not a big deal. In retrospect we would have called Ralph to see if he remembered and could tell us what we’d previously decided.
